great book for kids if you want them to learn that the weak can win over the strong, and that taking care of the environment is important

The narrative poem brings in a nature-loving man who comes across a hewed stump and confronts the lumbermen responsible for it. A talkative squirrel, an hooting owl, and all the forest's creatures great and small make this a charming tale. The rhyming couplets of the Introduction and the a-b-c-b rhyme of the Ballad's quatrains also make this an enjoyable read-aloud poem. The fitting choice of words, the suspenseful story, and the musical harmony create a pleasing composition.
